Traditional Ancestral Healer and Midwife Miriam Avalos Visits Denver and Taos!
Miri Metztlixochitl is a traditional healer from Mexico, an ancestral medicine woman, a Temezcalera (sweat lodge leader), and an internationally-acclaimed professional certified midwife. In addition to sitting at the feet of birth, she works as a minister in ceremonies for many rites of passage and significant moments in life. She has been guiding ceremonies, therapy, courses, and workshops since 2010 and has been working as a holistic therapist for over 10 years. Miriam has studied with esteemed elders and teachers of our time over the last two decades, and she has been mentored and held dear by them as well. Her authentic, centered, radiant energy is transmuted through all she offers, the blessings of which ripple far and wide. Her mission is to share ancient wisdom with those who are called to receive it.
We are honored and excited to host her for workshops, trainings and ceremonies in Colorado and New Mexico in September of 2024!
Some words on my intentions for inviting Miriam to visit...
In the heart of a thriving community, the connection between women through shared experiences forms a powerful, nurturing network that supports and uplifts each individual and creates ripples that uplift the community as a whole and beyond. When women come together, their unique stories, wisdom, and emotional support blend into a tapestry of empowerment, reinforcing the idea that each woman’s journey enriches the whole. By fostering a supportive environment where women listen to, affirm, and celebrate themselves and one another, we create a sanctuary of strength, encouragement, and radiant power.

Integrating the skills and knowledge of elders and teachers, especially including midwives, into this supportive framework further enhances the community’s strength. Traditional midwives offer invaluable expertise in holistic care, from understanding the rhythms of childbirth and the dynamics of family formation to nurturing the postpartum journey that continues through the rest of life. By learning from these seasoned stewards of life, women can gain practical skills and cultural wisdom that deepen their capacity to become a greater beacon of support themselves. Embracing these skills cultivates a culture of empowerment and security, allowing women to contribute more effectively to their community's health and well-being, grounded in both ancestral traditions and modern support. Certainly men play an important role in the optimal functionality of a thriving system as well, although we will save diving into that for another time since the theme of these specific workshops and ceremonies is women returning to their radiant centers together in a community of women.

As my dear teacher/mentor/sister/friend Rachelle Seliga says, "humanity's health is dependent on the health of the mother". When mothers are well, families are well, communities are well, and so on and so forth; the opposite is also true and unfortunately we can see the consequences of this far too often in the world we live in. Just like Mother Earth takes care of her children unconditionally, so do all resourced and connected mothers, including any woman who care-takes life and has birthed a creative business, work of art, music, garden, etc. This work of women coming together in support of one another is essential to the health and vitality of humanity at large.

May women know how to care for ourselves and each other so that we can feel deeply nurtured and supported, and may all of creation increasingly flourish!
